About AFJ

My name is Jessie Anderson, I’m a lifelong Alaskan and I’m an organizer by nature.  I became indirectly involved with the Alaska Film Industry in 2010. I saw filmmakers who had a tiny pool of contacts and resources, actors that only auditioned for the same directors because those were the only directors they knew, and empty film screenings that should have been packed with people.

Since then, it has been bugging me a little more all the time. Why wasn’t there a site where production groups, directors, actors and those aspiring to be the next big thing could all go to get information about their shared nascent industry? Someplace where you could ask an understanding group where you could find a stuffed dog or 1967 truck that you could borrow for a particular scene?

I think we locals can band together and make it much easier on ourselves to create more of our outstanding projects, if only there was a little help. Somewhere outside of Facebook and other exclusive member only sites to send out cast and crew calls, generate excitement and energy for upcoming projects, and get people together to showcase their work.  Eventually it came to me. I like to write, I like to interview people and keep up with what they are doing, and I would love to help build the film industry here.  I know these are lofty goals, but I can’t help but be challenged by them.

The dedication of Alaskan filmmakers is inspiring.  This was taken at a shoot in Girdwood, at -5!
